With a base constructed from bakelite with a flexible stem the unit uses mains voltage transformed to power a 3.5V bulb shrouded by a bakelite shade. Staffed mostly by British women, the Club, near Trafalgar Square offered a number of services from haircuts to coffee to Canadian service men.
