Classic wartime production with direct printing to tin and salvage slogan, this example also features the ' spidering ' common to tins made under the changed wartime tinplate restrictions. Enamel and silver gilt button hole badge for the National Pigeon Service who provided trained homing pigeons for essential use by the RAF, Army, Home Guard, SOE and Special Forces to relay urgent messages back to England. Penny Spitfire Badge.
Home made, pin back Spitfire badge. These badges were often made from a Penny, cut, folded and polished with a safety pin soldered to the reverse. Judging from the size, this example was more likely made from a halfpenny. Sometimes sold in aid of war weapons weeks or simply worn as a patriotic keepsake.
