Emergency Relief Organisation badge.

Celluloid and tin pinback badge for the Emergency Relief Organisation. This was the name for most of the post-raid services including rest centres and air raid welfare in Scotland. From December 1940 the various post-raid organisations were brought under the ERO banner and badges issued. In good overall condition with some fading.  read more

Although at first glance this is a purely commercial sheath knife, this pattern of knife has strong connections with the Auxiliary Units. Recorded examples of actual use with the Auxiliaries concentrate in the South West, Dorset, Cornwall etc. This particular example was acquired in Kingsbridge, Devon but unfortunately does not have any direct attribution to a specific unit.
